“He walks with his students, never pushing too hard and always present. The hulking blob drips ideas onto the sidewalk as his steps echo through the quaint town called enlightenment. As he drips his ideas, he absorbs new ones. Adding new pieces of experience to his already growing form is never far from his mind, and he knows that no matter how much he adds – he can always add more. Forming and forever learning is the mantra which he chants with a smile, at least that is, until he stops to listen.
This character-metaphor is my ultimate goal for myself as practicing educator. Life-long learning is the art that I have chosen to practice as I take the vow to be an educator of people. While I believe that who I am as an artist, who I have been as a graphic designer, and my study of education in the arts will aid me at being a well rounded art teacher I also know that at any second I must be ready to dismantle who I am and who I have been in order learn and to be a better educator
It is important to create and stay true to a visual arts curriculum that teaches to the appreciation of history and culture. It is important to teach a visual arts curriculum that enriches meaning that can flow into all areas of study. It is not just my hope to create a curriculum of study to enrich knowledge of the arts; I wish to go beyond that to create a curriculum that will enhance the meaning within the lives of those participating
We all start life, formatively, as students of life. As an educator it is my job to forever help people, as well as myself, to remember this.
